From this session you will acquire some successful tactics to use in the courtroom; gain strategies from both sides of a case; enhance your critical assessment of the stages of your pre-trial process; and elevate your skills in this critical area. - Consider a Judge alone or Jury trial.
- Briefing witnesses – is there a need?
- Understand the Crown case – analyse evidence, identify issues.

About the Presenter:
Mr Garth Stevens has extensive experience in Criminal law, having appeared as Defence Counsel in many trials. Garth was admitted in 1996 and worked with the (then) Legal Aid Commission, and ER Henry Wherrett and Benjamin, before becoming a Barrister in 2014. Garth has policy experience in criminal law in service on the Parole Board and Tasmania Law Society's Criminal Law Committee.

About the Presenter:
Ms Rochelle Mainwaring was admitted in 1998. She has extensive experience in Criminal law, having appeared as Defence Counsel in many trials. Rochelle has worked at Office of Director of Public Prosecutions and Tasmania Legal Aid, where she is currently Southern Criminal Practice Manager. Rochelle’s policy experience in criminal law through her work with the Sentencing Advisory Council, National Legal Aid Criminal Law Working Group and Tasmania Law Society's Criminal Law Committee.
