It should not be assumed that “the costs will come out of the estate”. This session examines the range of costs orders that the Court may make such as for successful applications; unsuccessful applications; altering the normal rule; Calderbank offers; offers of compromise; communicating clearly with clients as to the costs risk; and issues relating to the taxation of various costs orders. This session was delivered as part of the Elder and Succession Law Conference 2016.

Timothy Williams, Sole Practitioner

About the Presenter:

Mr Timothy Williams was admitted to practice in 1981. He spent his early career as a solicitor with the Public Trustee of Tasmania. After a short interlude as a Crown Prosecutor he entered private practice in the early 90's. He was a partner at Gunson Williams until its closure in 2015 and then ran his own practice as a sole practitioner. A significant part of his practice is disputes concerning wills and estates. He has appeared as Counsel in numerous trials.
