Alison Wiss, Senior Lawyer, McMullen Lawyers

About the Presenter:

Ms Alison Wiss has a 26-year strong background in estate planning and administration of deceased estates and is especially proficient in the preparation of wills, testamentary trust, enduring powers of attorney and enduring guardianships. Alison is currently chair of the Law Society of Tasmania Elder and Succession Law Committee, has contributed to a submission on why Tasmania should have a Charter for Human rights, and is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society for her work on human rights.

Kimberley Martin, Director, MMW Law

About the Presenter:

Ms Kimberley Martin is a senior estate planning, commercial, tax and trusts lawyer experienced in all aspects of Estate Planning, including Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Instruments Appointing Enduring Guardians, trust law and superannuation law. Her LLB is from UTAS, and she has an LLM (Masters) in Wills & Estates. Kimberley is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), an international group of professionals involved in trusts and estates. Through STEP, she is a member of the STEP Digital Asset Special Interest Group, a global group that provides an international forum of debate, education and support on digital issues. Kimberley won the Law Society of Tasmania’s Young Lawyer Award in 2016 and was awarded international Young Practitioner of the Year at the STEP Private Client Awards in London in 2018.

Gillian Groom, Council of Elders, Commonwealth Government

About the Presenter:

Ms Gillian Groom changed direction and became a Lawyer following a fifty year career in Occupational Therapy. She completed a Bachelor of Laws at UTAS in 2013, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (ANU) in 2014 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania in December 2014. Gillian was an Associate at Groom Kennedy for four years, specializing in Elder and Succession law until she retired in December 2018. Currently Gillian sits on the Human Health and Medical Research Committee (lawyer category) at UTAS. She is also a member of the Council of Elders which is a Commonwealth Government appointed group of 14 senior Australians from diverse backgrounds set up to provide advice and insights on the future of aged care reform.

Kristen McLagan, Senior Associate, McLean, McKenzie, Topfer

About the Presenter:

Ms Kristen McLagan gained a combined degree in Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania in 1997 and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and High Court in 1999. Kristen has experience in several areas of law and has an emphasis on Property Law; Commercial Law (including leases and business sales); Wills, Powers of Attorney and Estate Planning; Probate and Estate Administration; and Conveyancing.
