This session is delivered by Mr Shane Budden, Special Counsel, Queensland Law Society into the Criminal Law Conference 2022. Mr Budden states that ethical issues that can be challenging in all areas of law, but in the criminal sphere they can be particularly cryptic. In this session, Mr Budden covers basic ethical duties as they apply to criminal lawyers, as well as considering a number of case studies designed to address ethical issues from a practical viewpoint and based on real-life scenarios. About the Presenter:

Mr Shane Budden is Special Counsel with the Queensland Law Society and previously managed the Society’s Policy Team. He has extensive experience as a solicitor-advocate in a range of jurisdictions including the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and its predecessors, and the District and Magistrates Courts. 

Shane has published widely on legal and general topics in a variety of media, including the Courier Mail and Australian Newspapers and various digital media platforms; his monthly column has appeared in Queensland Law Society’s Journal Proctor for almost 20 years.
