Update to Profession – 13 May 2024

  • On 2 May 2024, the Executive Director, Luke Rheinberger, and I met with the Attorney General, the Honourable Mr Guy Barnett. This provided an opportunity for the Law Society to discuss our current work, goals and issues which are important to us as well as discussing the government’s proposed legislative framework.
  • On 10 May 2024, the Executive Director and I attended the ceremonial sitting for the bicentennial celebrations of the Supreme Court of Tasmania along with the launch of Justice Estcourt’s book, From Convicts to Computers… 200 years of the Tasmanian Supreme Court.
  • Once again, on behalf of the Law Society of Tasmania, I congratulate the Supreme Court of Tasmania on this wonderful milestone. We are proud to be able to say Tasmania has the oldest Supreme Court in Australia. The Law Society acknowledges that over the years we have been very fortunate to enjoy a close and cordial relationship with the Supreme Court and look forward to that continuing. I have included my address to the Court from the ceremonial sittings here.
  • Later in the day I attended a reception at Government House and then dinner at the Tasmania Club.
  • On 10 May 2024, the Executive Director and members of Council were in Burnie hosting several CPD events and then attending the northwest annual dinner. All events were well attended and I thank members of the profession in the northwest of the State for their support.
  • On 11 May 2024, Council met in Burnie.
  • On behalf of the Law Society of Tasmania, I will be participating in the Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout on 20 June 2024. On behalf of the Law Society of Tasmania I am seeking to raise both awareness and funds for this cause. Firms and practitioners can donate on my profile here.
