 The University of Tasmania Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) reviews health and medical and social science human research proposals. The role of the University of Tasmania HREC is to ensure research has merit and reflects the ethical values of justice, beneficence and respect for humans, is acceptable to the Australian community and meets the requirements of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.

Membership involves attending at least one meeting per month, as well as reading and reviewing ethics submissions prior to the meeting.
