The Southern Young Lawyers Committee would like to congratulate and thank Ali Sawyer for participating in the National Golden Gavel competition which was held in Brisbane on Friday 17 September. Ali performed hilariously after making a late decision to brave the national emergency and travel north – a right she earned from her stellar performance taking out the State Golden Gavel on Friday 13 August.
We would also like to thank all of our participants in the State Golden Gavel which was an enormous success – both in terms of the quality of the performances and the attendance from the profession. So in addition to Ali, we would like to recognise Zoey Dwyer, Cooper Denehey, Luke Ogden, Bernard Goh, Adrian Hilly and Jessica Sabapathy for making the night the great success that it was. It takes a lot of courage to stand up, make an attempt at cracking jokes and be judged by your professional peers, and this year all of our competitors did so with grace, flair and humour.
We would also like to pay tribute to our host – Jake Farmer, and the judges on the evening – Kate Cuthbertson, Simon Nicholson and Nic Edmondson, as well as our multi-talented President Trevor McKenna for his contributions to the dancefloor during and after the event.
After such a successful event this year, we are already very much looking forward to Golden Gavel 2022.
