As Tasmania opens its borders and national borders reopen, the University has been carefully considering the question of whether to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations across our campuses and locations.

In line with the Tasmanian Government’s approach, we conducted a risk assessment, which found that making COVID-19 vaccines mandatory would reduce the risks posed by the virus on our campuses. A subsequent staff and student survey reflected overwhelming support for the importance of vaccination and the idea of introducing mandatory vaccinations.

We already had thousands of our staff, students, and users (including suppliers, contractors, and couriers) required to be vaccinated as a result of Public Health directions. The University has decided to expand the vaccination requirement and has announced that from 15 January 2022, anyone coming on to campus needs to be fully vaccinated or have an exemption.
